The Wells & Area Trails Society maintains a network of old mining trails, historic ditchlines and mining roads that offer incredible recreation paths to all levels of hiker, snowmobilers, and skiers. The Bowron Lake Chain is world famous for its 116 km amazing wilderness canoe circuit. The historic 1930s gold mining town full of Wells houses unique architecture, located in the Cariboo Region of BC, resting approx. 1000 m above sea level between beloved mountains and streams. In 1862, a miner named Billy Barker struck gold on Williams Creek starting a rush of fortune seekers from all over the world. Some claim that Barkerville was the largest city west of Chicago and north of San Francisco at that time. Over a century later visitors are still discovering that hist
ory is alive and returning to the site of BC’s largest and most important gold rush. The town comes alive with fabulous guided town tours, mining demonstrations, street and indoor theatre, stagecoach rides, restaurants, gift shops, bakery, live theatre, gold panning, and over 125 historic buildings with displays.
